Shoppers rarely spend a lot on fabric, flooring, wallpaper, paint, perfume or tea they cannot touch, smell or see in their own light. A sample removes that doubt and costs far less than a return.
WooCommerce has no sample option, so stores usually make a second “sample” product for every item. Product Samples adds an Order a sample button to your real products instead. The sample is the same product with a Sample flag on the cart line, so there is no second catalogue, stock stays clean and you can see which samples became orders.
