Most WooCommerce stores still handle returns by email. The customer writes in, staff look up the order, ask for photos, refund by hand and restock by hand. About one online sale in five comes back, and since 19 June 2026 stores selling to EU consumers must also offer an online withdrawal function that works without login.

Does this make my store legally compliant with the EU withdrawal rule?

It gives you the function Article 11a describes: a labelled link, a form without login, a confirm step and a confirmation with date and time. National rules differ, so check the wording with your legal adviser. The plugin is a tool, not legal advice.

What happens with payment methods that cannot refund automatically?

The plugin records a manual refund on the order with a clear note and tells you to pay the customer yourself. Nothing is lost if an automatic refund fails: the request stays on Received and you see the error.

Can guests return an order?

Yes. They enter the order number and billing email and get a one time link by email. The same message shows whether or not the order exists, so nobody can test which orders are real.

Who can see customer photos?

Only the store staff and the customer who sent them. Files are stored in a protected folder with deny rules under random names and are served through a permission check. On nginx, where the deny rules do not apply, the random names keep them private.

Does an exchange change the original order?

No. It creates a linked free order for the new variation, and takes its stock. The returned item goes back in stock when the parcel arrives.

Can customers exchange for a different product?

The free plugin exchanges within the variations of the same product at the same price. Different products with a price difference are part of the Pro add-on.
