Overview

Why stores use it

Most stores treat every customer the same. You cannot quickly answer simple questions: who are my best buyers, who used to buy often but stopped, and who bought once and never came back? WooCommerce shows totals per customer, but no scores or ready groups, and it keeps guest orders apart from account orders.

RFM Customer Segments gives every customer a score for Recency (how long since the last order), Frequency (how many orders) and Monetary value (how much spent), then puts them in one of ten ready segments. Everything is worked out on your own server. There is no outside service, no account to create and no tracking script.

What does RFM mean?

Recency, Frequency and Monetary. It is a long standing way to group customers by how recently they bought, how often they buy and how much they spend.

How do the 1 to 5 scores work?

By default each score splits your own customers into five equal groups. Ties stay together. Most stores have many one time buyers, so one order often scores F1 and two orders jump to F4. That is expected. The settings screen shows the breakpoints in use.

My store is small and the segments look odd.

With few customers, quintiles move a lot with each order. Choose fixed thresholds in the settings, and set the numbers that fit your store.

Does it slow my store down?

No. Nothing runs on the storefront. Scoring runs in the background in batches, and the batch size can be lowered. It was tested with 100,000 simple orders.

A customer used two email addresses.

The billing email is the customer, so that counts as two customers. If merging is switched off, an account's orders count together, and guests count by email.

Which orders count?

Completed and processing orders by default, in the shop's own totals including tax and shipping. Orders in other currencies are added up as they are, with no conversion.

A customer left the list after I changed the lookback window.

A customer with no order inside the window is not scored. Choose All time to keep everyone.

Does it send emails or sync to email tools?

No. The free plugin only shows and exports. Exporting a list does not mean you may email it, so check your consent rules. The Pro add-on adds sync, win back coupons and more.
